Career Development Micro-Grants

Involved in an undergraduate research project but find yourself unable to finish the project because you need just a little bit of funding to reach the finish line?

Some examples might include:

  1. You designed a study and got IRB approval, but need incentives for participation in your survey.
  2. You ran out of a critical reagent and there are no funds to order another bottle.
  3. You just found a new primary resource and need to access it.

The possibilities are unlimited but the funding is not!  These micro-grants are designed to help an undergraduate student achieve their outcomes before the end of the semester.

Eligibility:

1) Students must be enrolled at UNC Charlotte and currently engaged in a mentored undergraduate research program through the Office of Undergraduate Research or equivalent independent or directed study style “research courses” (not simply a research methods course or require major capstone course) or working towards an Honors Thesis through a disciplinary honors program in the Honors College.

2) The student must be in good academic standing, good conduct standing, and be in good standing with the OUR office (no outstanding programmatic requirements incomplete).

3) The student must have an identified mentor, who also must be in good standing with OUR (no outstanding programmatic requirements incomplete).

Application Details: Students will submit an application of 3 pages or less with the following components:

1) An abstract or project synopsis written in publicly-accessible language;

2) A description of research objectives that clearly indicates the need for the requested funding

3) A budget and justification for the expenses

4) A letter of support from the mentor testifying that the student is conducting the majority of the work in the proposed research project and defining the need for the items and why other funding is not available

5) Documentation of institutional approval for any human subjects, live vertebrate, or biohazard related research where applicable.

Note that any dissemination of research must include an acknowledgement of OUR & the Career Center or the Division of Research as a source of funding.
